José Ramón Varela Pérez

José Ramón Varela Pérez worked as a Lecturer on English language at the Translation and Philology Department (Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona). Recently, he has defended a Ph.D dissertation on the study of negation in contemporary British English. Since Ocotber 2041, he has been working as Associate Professor at the English Department of the Universty of Barcelona. He is co-author of Diccionario de Enseñanza y Aprendizaje de Lenguas (Madrid: CLÉ International, 2007). His publications include articles on variation and on-going grammatical change in contemporary English, as well as on TEFL. Among the research projects in which he has taken part we can mention VALAL and SALA (on the effects of stay abroad on students’ language acquisition) and SULEC (on the compilation of a corpus of learner English). His research interests include the study of variation and on-going grammatical change in English, word formation, historical linguistics, translation and SLA.
