SIGN Ignacio Palacios Martínez presented a paper entitled "How can we account for the new changes taking place in the system of negation in modern English?" in the XI ESSE Conference, held in Torino, from the 24th to the 28th August, 2010.

SIGN Raquel Fernández Carril presented her Ph.D dissertation entitled "English vocabulary teaching and learning in the Galician EFL context. The role and importance of vocabulary learning strategies" on the 7th of May, 2010. She was awarded the highest grade with distinction (Sobresaliente Cum Laude).

SIGN María Luisa Roca Varela presented a paper entitled "The problem of false friends in learner language: Evidence from two learner corpora" in the 2nd International Conference on Corpus Linguistics (CILC10), held at the University of A Coruña from the 13th to the 15th May, 2010.

SIGN Martiña Piñeiro de la Torre presented a paper entitled "The teaching of phrasal and phrasal prepositional verbs in the Spanish context: A case study with EFL bachillerato materials" in the XXVIII Congreso AESLA, held in Vigo from the 15th to the 17th April, 2010.

SIGN Araceli García Fuentes presented a paper entitled "Break a Leg! The Use of Drama in the Teaching of English to Young Learners. A Case Study" in the XXVIII Congreso AESLA, held in Vigo from the 15th to the 17th April 2010.

SIGN Alba Cachafeiro presented the paper entitled "Creativity and language use. An analysis of the influence of English in Spanish magazines for young women" in the 1st International CILS Conference, held at the University of Calabria (Italy) from the 14th to the 16th of December, 2009.

SIGN Luisa Roca-Varela presented her paper “A corpus-based approach to the lexical collocates of highly problematic false friends in English and Spanish” in the 10th ELC Research Seminar held on January the 22nd, 2010 at the University of Santiago de Compostela.

SIGN The three Galician universities (Santiago, Coruña and Vigo) have just published jointly in collaboration with the Xunta de Galicia a new edition in Galician of the Dictionary of Language Teaching and Learning originally published in Spanish by En Clave-Ele Internacional in 2007. This dictionary was compiled by Rosa Alonso, Mario Cal, Paula López Rúa and José Ramón Varela under the direction of Ignacio M. Palacios. It contains a detailed explanation for more than 1,000 entries directly connected with different fields of second language teaching and learning: approaches and methods, teacher training and development, curriculum and syllabus design, classroom management, language research, Psycholinguistics and Clinical linguistics applied to language teaching, language skills, techniques and activities, etc. This volume also includes several appendices providing information of interest for language teachers and a glossary with the translation of the entry terms in six different languages: Italian, Spanish, Galician, French, English and German. This work may be of interest for language teachers and students, language professionals and researchers who want to have a comprehensive reference source for ther daily work and activities.

SIGN Francisco Javier Fernández Polo participated in a panel discussion entitled "O portafolio no ensino da tradución: descripción dunha experiencia" during the Jornadas internacionales Docencia, investigación e innovación en la Universidad: Trabajar con (e) portafolios, held in Santiago de Compostela on the 23rd and 24th November, 2009.

SIGN Luisa Roca Varela presented her MA dissertation entitled A Corpus-Based Study of English False Friends in the Interlanguage of Spanish Learners on the 4th September, 2009. At the moment she is on a research visit at the University of Birmingham (UK).

SIGN Begoña Jamardo has presented the paper entitled "El lenguaje no verbal en la comunicación intercultural: utilidad en la enseñanza de inglés de negocios" at the 26th AESLA Conference, which was held at the University of Castilla la Mancha from the 26th to the 28th March, 2009. She has also taught the following seminar during 2009: COMPETENCIA EN COMUNICACIÓN LINGÜÍSTICA. IMPLICACIONS METODOLOXICAS, ASPECTOS NON VERBAIS DA COMUNICACIÓN (6 hours, 16th February to the 26th March, 2009; Centro de Formación e Recursos de Pontevedra; Conselleria de Educación, Xunta de Galicia).

SIGN Our team leader, Ignacio Palacios Martínez, presented the paper entitled "It ain't nothing to do with my school. Variation and pragmatic uses of ain't in the language of British English teenagers" in the 30th ICAME Conference, which was held at the University of Lancaster from the 27th to the 31st May, 2009.

SIGN Araceli García Fuentes presented the paper entitled "Let's talk ICTs" in the 6th International Conference of English Methodology, which was held at the University of Valladolid from the 6th to the 9th May, 2009.

SIGN Inmaculada Gigirey Liste, Martiña Piñeiro de la Torre and Mª Luisa Roca Varela presented the paper entitled "New Insights into the Teaching of Spoken Language. A typology for the classification and development of oral tasks" in the 6th Internacional Conference of English Methodology, which was held at the University of Valladolid from the 6th to the 9th May, 2009.

SIGN Last November, the member of our research team, Isabel Balteiro, was awarded the 2008 AEDEAN (Spanish Association for Anglo-American Studies) "Leocadio Martín Mingorace" for her book The Directionality of Conversion in English: a Dia-Synchronic Study (2007, Bern: Peter Lang).
