Lorena Barrera Fernández obtained her BA in English Language and Literature from the University of Santiago de Compostela (2003). Indeed, she was awarded a BA with distinction by both the Autonomous Goverment of Galicia and the Spanish Ministry of Education (Premio Nacional de Fin de Carrera). In October 2003, she was admitted to the Ph.D Programme in English Linguistics of the USC. From October 2003, she worked at the Department of English as a research fellow funded by the Autonomous Government of Galicia up to October 2004. Then, she received a grant from the Spanish Ministry of Education, FPU (Formación de Porfesorado Universitario). In July 2007, she passed the national examination qualifying her for a permanent position as a high school English teacher. At the moment, she is also preparing her Ph.D dissertation on Pronunciation Learning Strategies and New Perspectives on the Teaching of Pronunciation, under the supervision of Ignacio Palacios. She is the author of several publications dealing with the topic of her doctoral dissertation and she has presented papers in several national and international conferences.
